Set of Two Vintage German Brushes for Fabric Care
Set of Two Vintage German Brushes for Fabric Care
$28.00
These brushes were found at two different Estate sales but I have combined them as they are both from Germany. Great to add to a collection, or put to use with a vintage flair.
One is a small wood handles fabric brush with off-white bristles, a blond wood varnished handle and top metal accent. Germany is printed on the end of the handle. This is a smaller profile brush and was likely for fabric care, or even crumb removal. The bristles are very pliable and soft and I believe them to be synthetic. The brush is in excellent vintage condition with just some surface dustiness in the bristles. My research found more similar items identified as crumb brushes than fabric brushes but this one had no collecting tray.
Dimensions - 7 3/4" long, 1 1/2" deep at bristles, 3 1/2" long handle.
The second is an antique horsehair brush with The Springfield Abattoir Co. Rockaway Street Springfield, Ohio in graphics on the top, along with a circular mark indicating Dependable Quality SAC Made by Springfield Abattoir Co, Springfield O. Made in Germany is on one side. I was not able to find any information regarding this company in my research, other than learning that an Abattoir is actually a term for a slaughterhouse. I think this may be a really old piece based on the lack of historical details and the condition of the brush, but I have met the capacity of my research abilities! This would be great for an Ohio historian to add to their collection. It is a larger, firm bristle brush that I believe is horse hair. The wood top and sides have quite a bit of scratching and nicks in the finish. There is a fine spattering of white paint on the top as well. The words are very easy to read. The bristles are quite stiff and compact and it would be really good at removing stubborn surface issues. I used it on some dusty wicker and it worked really well. Dimensions: 8 1/4" x 2 1/2" x 1 7/8"
