Vintage Green Handled Wire Fry Basket
Vintage Green Handled Wire Fry Basket
Looking for a unique piece to add to your vintage green handled kitchen tool collection? This is it! I have searched high and low to find a similar item and was not able to find a comparison. I suspect that these items did not survive as well as other pieces from that time due to the fact that they were used in hot oil and may have been hard to clean and preserve.
This piece is really nice. It has a wooden green handle and a long double metal shaft that attaches the handle to the wire mesh basket. The wire top to the basket opens with a sliding mechanism along the shaft. Everything works on the piece, but it is sticky. I feel quite confident that it would move much easier with some lubrication, but have left that for the next owner. Some do not like the vintage condition to be altered.
The wire basket itself is in good condition. There are a few snags in the mesh, but no holes and little rusting, just discoloration with age. It does not fit snugly on top of the basket, but I believe the handle stickiness is the cause of that misalignment. Fix that and the top would fit more securely.
This would look really cool in a display in a farmhouse kitchen, or in your vintage camping collection. I believe it could be used to pop corn over a campfire as well.
