Vintage 1940s Original Green Fiesta Round Platter with Ridges and Backstamp
Vintage 1940s Original Green Fiesta Round Platter with Ridges and Backstamp
$55.00
Vintage marked Fiesta large serving platter/chop plate, in beautiful original light green color with clear backstamp. The 12" round ceramic platter features an art deco style with ribs along the outside edge and on the back and a glossy finish that enhances its beauty.
This platter is perfect for use during an outdoor barbecue to serve hotdogs & hamburgers, or a big pile of ribs or chicken; it is large and substantial!
The platter is in very nice vintage condition. There are no chips or cracks. There are two surface marks on the front, near the center circle and other utensil marks throughout. The back has eight spots where the glaze was not finished correctly. I believe these are from the original manufacturing process and not chips from use as there is no compromise to the platter around the spots.
My research indicates that the backstamp helps date the piece. This plate has the backstamp Genuine fiesta H L O USA
- The F in Fiestaware has changed considerably since the 1930s. The original Fiesta “F” is always lower case and has no loops. The rest of the words in Fiesta are interconnected. In 1986, when Fiesta was revived, the F in Fiesta was given a distinctive loop, making it appear uppercase.
-The word “Genuine” began appearing sometime in the 1940s. This was in response to the many imitation Fiestaware pieces that were produced in the wake of Fiesta's success.
-The ink mark is under the glaze.
-The original green color was made from 1930s onward
This all leads me to believe this is from the 1940s or early 1950s. This belongs in your Fiesta ware collection - or in your rotation of functional platters with vintage vibes!
Dimensions:
