Little Chip of Willow Hill
By Berta and Elmer Hader
Published by The Macmillan Company New York 1958
First edition.
Rusty red cloth over boards with title and illustration in white on front.

Little Chip is a chipmunk who loves to sit on top of a rock to enjoy the flowers and garden. He finds that the garden changes and the flowers are not in bloom anymore. There are more changes to come! Explores seasonal changes, other creatures of the woodland and the challenges of a fire for the plants and animals. Amazingly beautiful illustrations on every page, some in full color, others black and white.

There is edge rubbing and corner curling on the cover with a black sharpie mark on the front cover. Otherwise the pages are in really nice condition and there is no writing in the book.
The binding is tight and square.

Bio of the Authors/Illustrators:
Berta Hoerner Hader (August 1, 1890 – February 6, 1976) and Elmer Stanley Hader (September 7, 1889 – September 7, 1973) were an American couple who jointly illustrated more than 70 children's books, about half of which they also wrote. They won the annual Caldecott Medal for The Big Snow (1948), recognizing the year's "most distinguished American picture book for children". They received the Caldecott Honor Book Award for Cock-a-doodle-doo in 1940 and The Mighty Hunter in 1944.

I found a wonderful collection of vintage children's books for mid-elementary and older readers at a sale this past month and am working to get them posted. There is a little video showing the first four titles attached. Come back for more!
