Oh, what a sweet story and awesome find for your vintage children's book collection or as gift for a John Henry in your life!

John Henry Davis
By Munro Leaf
Published by Frederick A. Stokes Company, New York, 1940.
First edition.
Red cloth over boards with title and illustration in black on front.

Really cute story about John Henry Davis and nine year old boy who learns the meaning of being "tough" from his encounter with the neighborhood bully. Really cute and approachable illustrations make this "teachable" story fun for kids to absorb.

There is edge rubbing and corner curling on the cover with a few light marks on both front and back. Some of the pages have dirty smudges from use but no tears. (It appears this was a favorite book to be read) Signed Bruce Carliss Christmas 1940 in ink on first page. The pages are age-toned. The binding is tight and square.

Bio of the Author:
Wilbur Monroe Leaf was an American writer of children's literature who wrote and illustrated nearly 40 books during his 40-year career. He is best known for The Story of Ferdinand, a children's classic which he wrote on a yellow legal-length pad in less than an hour.

I found a wonderful collection of vintage children's books for mid-elementary and older readers at a sale this past month and am working to get them posted. There is a little video showing the first four titles attached. Come back for more!
