An evocative oil on board landscape painting depicting a sheep pasture with a pond surrounded by trees in full fall color. In the background is the cozy interior lit house. Nestled under the trees are the small flock of sheep getting ready to huddled up for the evening. What a wonderful centerpiece for a gallery wall or mantel to celebrate the colors of the season and nod to the comforts of home, for both human and ovine. A little antique chalk ware sheep figure from Germany will be sent along to compliment the piece.

This painting has wonderful detail in the natural elements of the trees, grasses, water and leaves. The colors in the sky are particularly nice. The addition of the sheep nestled under the tree adds such charm! There are a few nicks in the paint, the most notable being in the pond and a few in the sky and up in the top right corner leaves. These could be touched up with the right technique. The paint has a slight crackly texture as well.

The frame has quite a bit of decorative interest. It is dark walnut in color and has an art deco design on the front and inner edges. The frame is in really nice structural condition. There appears to be some slight spattering of white paint along the top edge. I think it could be cleaned up if preferred. The piece is signed W. Hanaford in the bottom right hand corner with no date. The type of oil board and frame lead me to believe this is likely from the late 1940s. It is securely held into the frame with numerous small nails and does have a rudimentary hanging wire. The back finishing paper is missing.

This is perfect for the autumn mantel display or that last finishing piece on your landscape gallery wall!
