$60.00
The perfect start, or addition to, your Ironstone dishware collection. This is a set of two antique pieces that are from the 1800s.

1 - Chunky Ironstone Platter, Stamped G-V (Maybe)China V.P. Co.. I consulted an appraiser and they identified this mark as 1876 to 1896 ironstone platter made by Vodrey Pottery Co of Pa and KY. No crazing to speak of but quite a bit of usage scratches on the front, as well as flea bites (some tiny, some 1/4") and other dark spots. No chips. Great addition to any farmhouse or cottage kitchen. Dimensions: 8 3/8" x
12" x 1 3/8"

Information about Vodrey Pottery is as follows:

Jabez Vodrey was a Staffordshire potter who came to American in the 1840's working in New Jersey, Kentucky and Indiana potteries before settling in East Liverpool Ohio. His first pottery there was established in 1847, but it was in 1876 that his sons, William, James and John, built the Vodrey & Brother Pottery and began the production of white ware. In 1896 the pottery was incorporated as Vodrey Pottery Company.

2 - Powell & Bishop side plate with four embossed floral designs on the rim. The dish is from the aesthetic movement period of the 1860s. The dish has usage wear consistent with age and a variety of dark spots, primarily along the outside edge. No crazing or chips. Dimensions: 7 3/4" diameter, 1 1/8" tall

The back mark gives us a lot of information. The English Design registration system, modified in 1868, allows the interpretation of the manufacturer dating. Using that system, the mark on this platter indicates Ceramic, October 29, 1861, Parcel 4. Along with the impressed registration mark there is also a black Ironstone China Powell & Bishop back mark.

Information about P & B is as follows:

Powell & Bishop were china and earthenware manufacturers at the Stafford Street Works and the Church Works, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent. Founded in 1851 as Livesley, Powell & Co. In 1860 Mr. Livesley left the business which was renamed Powell & Bishop in 1867. Mr. Frederic Bishop and Mr. James Watson Bishop were the partners.
