Antique Pink Rimmed China Plate with Hand Painted Partridges Scene
Antique Pink Rimmed China Plate with Hand Painted Partridges Scene
$22.00
This lovely pink rimmed plate features a delicate hand painted scene of partridges in the wild. It has the most delicate look and feel with the scalloped outer rim a and the pastel flowers and grasses surrounding the partridges. The yellow grass has textured and shimmery paint as well so it really makes the imagery stand out. There are two partridges in the center and one flying off into the horizon. I have not been able to any other pieces that have all the features of this hand painted plate. Really wonderful!
On the back the plate is marked with the H & Co. Limoges mark, as well as with the name of the Philadelphia importers. Haviland & Company was founded by the American Haviland family in the 1840s. They had the china manufactured in Limoges, France, and then they imported it to the U.S. This particular plate was made for and imported to the Frymier & Edwards Importers, who were at one time the leading importers of china in Philadelphia.
This plate was marked as an antique at the estate sale where it was found. The style, feel of the china and the company history of the names on the back lead me to believe it is likely from the 1920s so I will use the antique label as well. It is in antique condition, consistent with its age. There is a bit of staining and mottling on a few spots on the pink rim, and there are two chips to the back edge, one is tiny and the other larger, but mostly visible from the backside. There is a line of gold paint on the outside rim and on the inner rim. This paint has faded in some areas, most noticeably on the inside rim. The painting of the birds and flowers and foliage is in really nice shape!
This plate would display so well on a mantel or as part of a gallery wall. Very unique presentation and wonderful colors!
