Vintage Double Phoenix Pink Flora Ironstone Platter Japan

Vintage Double Phoenix Pink Flora Ironstone Platter Japan

$28.00
This is such a gorgeous piece of vintage serving wear in immaculate condition. It would be excellent to display on the wall, or to hold your perfume bottles and make up or would look amazing as a tray underneath the green foliage of your house plants. But, it really belongs on the Christmas holiday table with it's bright white and cranberry pink flowered coloring and hefty, ironstone presence. What a special Christmas cookie platter it would make!

This is the Pink Flora pattern from Double Phoenix Japan and is not that easy to find, especially in this condition. It is a lovely creamy white with a soft cranberry pink floral pattern and soft scalloped edges around the upper perimeter of the piece.

The back has a pink mark of Double Phoenix Ironstone Pink Flora Japan with an image of two phoenix in the center. My research indicates that the piece was likely made between 1908 and 1914 as the 1914 US law revision mandated "Made In" be marked on all imported items and the prior US law only required the country of origin be marked on all imported items.

In 1908, the Nihon Koshitsu Toki Company (NKT) began production in Japan using the Double Phoenix maker mark. In 1917 the NKT company moved to Korea which means the Japan marked dinnerware was made prior to 1917.

This platter is in remarkable condition for being 110+ years old. There are no cracks, chips, or crazing on the front. It does have light age appropriate utensil marks and a few small age marks on the front and back. The finishing glaze is still quite shiny. Overall Gorgeous!!!

The shape is really unique - it has a center oval area (7 3/4" x 10 1/2") that makes it a shallow bowl. The sides then flute up from the center and it has an oval shape to the scalloped edge. Pink transferware flowers are scattered around the entire piece.
Dimensions:

Platter measures approx. 14 1/4" x 11 1/4" x 1 1/4"
