Vintage Country Church Winter Watercolor Framed Signed
Vintage Country Church Winter Watercolor Framed Signed
$28.00
This is the quintessential American winter landscape painting with the country church in the background, evergreen trees and a fence line in the forefront and the most amazing winter sky with moon shine illuminating the setting. This charming piece makes me think of driving the back roads of Northern Michigan, upstate New York or Vermont. It feels like you turn the corner and there is another country church that transports you back at least 100 years.
It is a lovely scene of an old fashioned church on a winter night. It is very well painted. The glowing windows of the church against the dark blue moon lit sky are very evocative. The painting is signed David P. Ackerman (I believe I have interpreted the signature correctly) in the lower left corner. It is not dated, but everything about it—the style, the frame, the gallery sticker indicating the area code that was no longer in use from 1999 onwards —indicates that it’s from the early 90s. I was not able to locate any other pieces, or biographical information on the artist.
The painting is in really nice condition as is the custom gallery frame. There is brown backing paper on the back, a hanging wire and the Gallery sticker from Cadillac Art Gallery (no longer in existence). The navy blue mat has a suede look to the surface. The small red inner mat highlights the red in the painting well. There are fingerprints on the glass that could be cleaned up more.
One picture shows it with a stoneware blue St. Nicholas statue that is sold separately. They look really nice together!

Framed: 7 3/4" x 7 1/2" x 1 1/4"
