Vintage Lionel Barrymore "Dry Dock" Framed Black and White Print
Vintage Lionel Barrymore "Dry Dock" Framed Black and White Print
$55.00
"Dry Dock" is an etched reproduction print by Lionel Barrymore that would be a wonderful addition to your mid-century art work collection. When I saw the piece, I recognized the name, of course, but did not know if this was THE Barrymore - and my research tells me it was!
The print is done in a Talio-Crome style. Talio Crome is produced by Brown and Bigelow's patent process that creates an etching look without using a plate. The print dates to the early 70's and the original piece was likely 1930s - 40s.
The painting is entitled "Dry Dock" in the lower left hand corner and signed Lionel Barrymore in the lower right hand corner. The Brown & Bigelow USA Copyright mark is also in the lower left hand corner. The image itself is wonderfully detailed of a dry dock on the edge of a residential neighborhood in Los Angeles from the 1930s. I love the fact that he captured the "life" of this setting, complete with the naked toddler coming out of the water's edge from his bath! Really fun to look closely at the piece. You notice a different detail every time!
The print itself is in really nice condition, as it is behind glass. There is some waviness to the surface of the print that you can see under the glass. If reframed, I believe this could rectified. The frame is a classic silver metal frame from the 1980s and it has a neutral taupe color mat. The mat was not professionally cut and is uneven in a few spots. Frame is sturdy and free of major flaws. There is surface wear to the paper backing. There is a hanging wire on the back.
