Vintage Ceramic Hand Painted French Violin Trinket Dish

Vintage Ceramic Hand Painted French Violin Trinket Dish

$18.00
What a little treasure! This little trinket dish or tea bag rest would make such a wonderful house warming or thank you gift. It is shaped like a cello or violin (or maybe a guitar?) and has Soyez les bienvenus! in French painted on the bottom (Translates to Welcome in English). On the back is written: "GF Desvres France Hand Painted". My research indicates this is likely from the 1930s and made in North France from Gabriel FOURMAINTRAUX (born in 1886) from the Desvres factory located in a French town famous for its hand-painted pottery.

The welcoming vibe is continued with alpine flowers painted around the message and bright Kelly green sponges edges and yellow frets on the instrument.

This little ceramics dish makes a wonderful ring tray or paper clip holder. It's possible that the neck was designed to hold a cigarette as a personal ash tray as well.

The piece is in really nice condition, no chips, cracks, scratches. There are a few rough spots along the outside edge but they do not show missing color. The surface also has some "dirtiness" beneath the glaze from aging. It would make a nice desk accessory or piano-top piece for a musician, as well as a Welcome gift for many occasions.
