Vintage Whimsical Wooden Duck Cheese Server
Vintage Whimsical Wooden Duck Cheese Server
Pair your “Cheese, Wine, and Bread: Discovering the Magic of Fermentation in England, Italy, and France” book with this whimsical wooden duck CHEESE server.
Okay - I know this is kitschy! But really, wouldn’t this be so fun to have at your next wine & cheese gathering! This is such a fun vintage wood duck that has holes for toothpicks to serve hors d'oeuvres! It's so retro and whimsical, but practical too! It really works for it’s intended purpose quite well. We tried it!
The duck is made out of wood and painted in a soft yellow and green color scheme. He perches on a yellow round wood base so is very stable. There are small, toothpick sized holes from the start of the beak to the back of the head (10 holes) and along the back to the base of the tail ( 10 holes). There are 20 holes in total.
I would call this good condition, considering the age. The paint was applied in a textured pattern (I do not think this is age related) on the body and the base. There are chips in the paint along the feet on one side, on the crown of the head and along the wing on one side. Chippy charm for sure! There are a few minor spots where the paint is entirely scuffed off along some of the edges.
It is marked on the bottom Madera-Ware which was painted woodware that came out of Madera California from the 1930s - 1960s.. Not a lot of these pieces have survived the last 50 years and I did not find one that matches it on my searching.
Dimensions:
7 1/'4” tall, 4 1/2'“ wide beak to tail, 4” diameter of base
