What fun! This is such a handsomely made small wooden jar. I believe this was a unique old cigar box, otherwise known as a Treen. I also found in my research that they were identified as Treen Tobacco Jars. And I learned a new term from that insight! The definition of Treen per Colliers is: 1. made entirely of wood. noun. 2. household utensils, dishes, etc., made entirely of wood; treenware. Half the fun of working in the vintage space is learning new things!

This little gem appears to be made of oak with wonderful placement of the wood grain to set off the design. The lid has a button handle that is carved out of the same piece as the lid.
The lid also has really nice concentric circles visible. The bottom is marked with a signature that I can not decipher and 1955.

There are a few nicks in the wood of the top handle but no other flaws of note. The design is really nice and eye appealing. Inside is quite clean - there are dark marks from age and usage but no cracks. No tobacco odor inside so that is likely not the most recent usage.

Just a fun little Treen to add to a collection or use for storing tea bags, sewing supplies or even desk supplies. It will spark conversation and belongs on your bar table, desk or even as part of a centerpiece on the kitchen table.
