We were vintage shopping in Canada over the weekend and I was so happy when I spied this piece! It is a tradtional signed wood carving by Berthier Beauregard from Saint Jean Port-Joli, Quebec Canada.

I thought it could be just the perfect piece to complete the mantel at the cabin and Warmth and Cheer customers would appreciate the hand made folk art look of the piece. It features Grandfather and Grandmother sitting around the fireplace in the evening with the dog in front of the field stone fireplace. The piece has really amazing detail, down to the clock on the mantle, the wood planks of the floor and the faces of the people! It is signed on the back Berthier B. There is a felt covering on the base that may be a newer addition, not sure.

The piece is in very good condition. I believe there may be a few pieces missing; a candlestick and bottle on the mantle and a cat that would be next to the Grandmother. Until I saw pictures with those missing items, I did not feel like it looked incomplete.

It belongs on the mantel or shelf in your cabin or even as a gift to a fellow cabin owner. The Canadian heritage represented adds to the charm. Berthier Beauregard's wood carvings feature the flat-plane tradition of Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, Quebec. Her subjects range from people, birds and animals - but always honoring true Quebecois themes and styles.
