Vintage Handmade Woven Basket with 3D Flowers and Picket Fence Design
Vintage Handmade Woven Basket with 3D Flowers and Picket Fence Design
$75.00
I see a lot of baskets at Estate sales and am quite particular about those I select for my customers. Imagine how excited I was to come across this collection of incredibly intricate, handmade baskets in soft colors and/or 3D embellishments,
Treasures!
This is a really special handmade vintage basket. My guess is that it was designed to be a plant holder due to the shape and size. It has a small pedestal bottom with curved sides that culminate in a large opening. The structure of the basket is made from brown wicker, expertly wove. The extra special touch is the 3D flower and picket fence design that covers the circumference of the belly of the basket. The picket fence is made of neutral wooden slats held on to the side of the basket with woven slats. Above the picket fence are blue delphiniums, yellow daisies, blue cosmos, black eyed susans, and a few other colorful additions. Just amazing.
I think it would work really well as a plant holder, but it would also be an amazing vessel for a centerpiece on a large table or buffet spread as well. The base is a pre-made wicker circle that is very sturdy and the basket sits quite securely on the piece.
The craftsmanship on this basket is unparalleled. There is no signature but I am comfortable that it was handcrafted based on the information from the Estate sale.
The style and craftsmanship lead me to believe it is from the 1980s. It is in excellent condition. There are no chips or cracks and only the slightest of fraying on a few pieces. It is just beautiful! What I find most intriguing is that it was made with such rustic elements, yet it has a delicate, almost feminine feel. Due to the handmade nature, the picket fence does do a bit of meandering around the outside of the basket, but that just adds to the charm!
Dimensions:
Basket - 10 1/4" high, 12 3/4" top diameter, 5" diameter base
