Vintage Jack Phelps Color Pencil/Aquatint Print, "Old Beech"
Vintage Jack Phelps Color Pencil/Aquatint Print, "Old Beech"
$100.00
This exquisite color pencil/aquatint print by Jack Phelps depicts an "Old Beech" that is masterfully executed on high-quality paper. The life of the tree is executed with an artist's eye from the bare top branches, the middle clinging autumn hued leaves and the pile of brightly colored leaves on the ground.
The pieces is signed in pencil along the bottom:
Jack Phelps 8/50
Old Beech
Color Pencil/Aquatint
The piece is professionally framed by the Allain Gallery in Richmond Indiana (sticker on the back) with an inner black mat, museum quality textured neutral mat and clean black wood outer frame. The back has black finishing paper and a high-end hanging wire.
While no date is on the piece, my research indicates that Mr. Phelps began working in this medium in the late 1990s and the second piece from the same artist found at the Estate Sale was dated 2000. I am estimating late 1990s.
If you're looking to add a beautiful piece of art to your collection, this matted and signed aquatint print by Jack Phelps is definitely worth considering. The print has been behind glass and is in wonderful condition (it is a bit wavy as framed) and the mat and frame are in excellent condition.
The information I found about the artist is as follows -
Jack Phelps, a well-known artist from Williamsburg, Indiana, began as a Pen & Ink artist and has branched into etchings and aquatints. He is known for his representations of historical buildings, covered bridges, railroad engines, lighthouses and various scenes from nature.
Dimensions:
