Just in time for the Back to School season! This is a very charming crewel work depicting a charming red school house, or farm house in the full bloom of summer. The piece is in very good vintage condition, but could use a re-stretching and re-framing to bring out its best! The stitching is very well done and the detail included in the picture is a charming presentation of the elements of a iconic American scene; red clapboard school house with bell tower and front porch (or could this be a farm house?), water pump, trees and grasses and even a small birds nest. This would be a very nice addition to a country themed gallery wall.

The oak wood frame has beveled edges and decorative ridges and is in nice vintage condition. The back of the piece was covered in burlap fabric for a finish. This fabric has come loose on the top edge and is no longer taut. It also has a few stains. It would be quite simple to remove this piece, re-stretch the crewel tapestry and apply a new finishing backing. It would look like new again! There is no glass covering the fabric so it is slightly dusty from the passage of time. There is a substantial hanging claw on the back.
