Vintage Staedtler Mars Mechanical Pencil Lead Replacement Box, World War II Era
Vintage Staedtler Mars Mechanical Pencil Lead Replacement Box, World War II Era
$12.00
One of the recent Estate Sales I attended had a vast collection of WWII era clothing, equipment and ephemera. There were three little cardboard boxes which made a fascinating collection. This is the second item; Staedtler Mars Lead Pencil refills with a marbled green box and red and gold paper label. Marked as R2513 1 Dzd.
The label is really intricate with an emblem that looks like a lock with red front piece and gold handle with Anno 1662 Domini on the handle. There are three red pencils included in the design as well.
The box is is fine shape for the age and includes two lead pencil replacement cartridges. The first is a small cardboard paper tube with KIM-BER-LY Quality Leads on the label. 8 little lead pieces of varying sizes are inside the tube. The second is a slim silver metal container with a slide off lid. Inside are 3 lead pieces in the original size. I think these leads are possibly from the company noted on the outside of the box.
I do not know what mechanical pencils these leads would fit but they appear to be in usable condition with no apparent flaws, other than the small size of some of the KIMBERLY pieces. There are a few nicks and scratches on the box. The paper label is glued on the top and has some slight edge damage. Everything is made of cardboard and the base slides in and out nicely. Amazing engineering for such a day to day product.
Dimensions:
Box - 2 1/4" x 1 5/8" x 3/4"
KIMBERLY tube - 1 3/4" long
Staedtler Mars Container - 1 5/8" long
