I was pretty comfortable that this was a had turned wooden tobacco jar. I was told that it is antique by the Estate sale where it was purchased but have no way to verify if it is as old as 1920s. Most of them I found in my research where in the early 1900s so it may be accurate. I also found in my research that they were identified as Treen Tobacco Jars. And I learned a new term from that insight! The definition of Treen per Colliers is: made entirely of wood
1. made entirely of wood. noun. 2. household utensils, dishes, etc., made entirely of wood; treenware.

This is a pretty version of a Treen Tobacco Jar. It is made of hard wood and the three small nails on the bottom indicate it was likely hand turned. It has been hand painted with blue and white flowers to add a bit of flair. PR Hand Painted is signed on the bottom. The piece sits level and the lid fits nicely. There is quite a bit of scuffing to the original stain finish but the painted flower design is in really nice shape.

Just a fun little Treen to add to a collection or use for storing tea bags, sewing supplies or even desk supplies. It will spark conversation and belongs on your bar table, desk or even as part of a centerpiece on the kitchen table.
