Vintage Copper Lusterware Ceramic Pitcher with Young Girl & Dog in Garden Raised Design
Vintage Copper Lusterware Ceramic Pitcher with Young Girl & Dog in Garden Raised Design
$24.00
Here's a sweet antique find; a pretty British Victorian luster ware creamer!
She's decorated with a wide cobalt blue band in the center with a hand painted raised pattern of a young girl in the garden with her dog on both sides. Little beaded detail goes around it in 3 different places and there are ribbed bands around the bottom. The inside is about 1 1/2" down in copper and then is white. Just a proper little piece of copper lusterware which originated in the Staffordshire District of England in the early 1800s.
Please note that this creamer has two surface flaws that were part of the manufacturing process. There is a stray ceramic piece on the inside rim and near the top edge on one side. The paint on the raised imagery is also imprecisely applied, again part of the original production process. The overall finish on this lovely antique cream pitcher is wonderfully bright and shiny clean.
Likely this was originally created as a buttermilk or syrup pitcher but would lend itself to use as a flower vase or mantel decoration even more so, but it could be used for serving liquids. The coppery brown hue, the raised design and the cobalt blue accent set this apart for its display quality.
No manufacturer markings on the piece.
Dimensions:
3 1/2" tall x 5" wide from spout to handle
2 1/4" diameter at top opening and base
