I have a friend that likes to use vintage tins and banks as gift holders for gift cards or cash gifts for her extended family. What a great idea! I am keeping my eye open for items that will work for this very purpose for Warmth & Cheer customers. This set of two vintage Pastilles tins fit that bill They would also work wonderfully in any rustic, farmhouse or industrial décor; they would also be clever to be used as a display advertising item for medical, pharmaceutical or chemist settings.
The first:
A gold, black and turquoise tin box made in England by Allen & Hanburys Ltd. London. They are cleverly named Allenbury's Pastilles Made from Glycerine & Blackcurrants. This tin originally stored candy/lozenges that were medicinal for the throat. It is a rectangular box with curved corners and a domed, hinged lid. In wonderfully shabby, distressed, but sturdy condition. There are scratches on the top and bottom of the tin and a few random marks around the sides. The inside is quite clean and could be used to store so many fun things! The lid fits securely and snaps shut nicely. A few slight dings.
Dimensions: 3 7/8" x 1 7/8" x 1 3/8"
The second:
A beautifully colored vintage hinged tin of Meggeson Glycerine & Blackcurrant Pastilles; which were sweet lozenges for coughs and throat irritations. The coloring, in tones of aqua, purple, red, black and gold, is really striking with 1940s graphics and and an image of blackcurrants. The Meggeson's name came from the company's founder, Mr. Meggeson, who started the company in 1796; by the early nineteenth century, Meggeson's had pioneered sugar based lozenges and was one of the first companies to make medicated pastilles. Originally made in England by the London based Meggeson firm, the brand today is owned by the multinational company, Schering Plough.
In wonderfully shabby, distressed, but sturdy condition. There are scratches on the top and bottom of the tin and a few random marks around the sides. The inside is quite clean and could be used to store so many fun things! The lid fits securely and snaps shut nicely. A few slight dings.
