Antique Three Crown China Rose Jelly Jar with Spoon
Antique Three Crown China Rose Jelly Jar with Spoon
$22.50
Rare to find the complete set! What a darling little piece, with a hint to the original owner on the bottom! This three piece set includes a dainty jelly/jam/condiment jar with a lid and the original luster ware spoon. This would have so many uses - use as a serving set for relishes, candies, dessert, nuts and cheeses or the perfect final piece to use on your Easter buffet or baby or wedding shower decorations!
The bright white china background is decorated with pretty yellow roses on the front with purple luster ware designs above. The original purple luster ware spoon is also included. The best part? The top of the handle of the spoon is shaped like a duck's foot! What a perfect Easter touch.
The back has the green hallmark for Three Crown China Germany and is numbered 45 of 297. My research indicates that Three Crown China is a mark introduced by Unger & Schilde of Roschuetz, Thuringia, Germany. It was specific to items imported and distributed by Jon H. Roth (trademark 'Jonroth') from South Bend, Indiana between 1909 and 1916. The mold and decoration types of these items are mostly combinations of molds and decorations normally used by U &S, Hermann Ohme and Kuno Steinmann. (In 1884 John H Roth entered the ceramic trade as a clerk for the C. E. Wheelock Pottery Company in South Bend, Indiana. The business name of John H. Roth & Co. came to be when he sold his equity at Wheelocks in 1909.)
Also on the back is a taped message of Old and G. Grandma Hanke. Think of how long this has decorated a table or buffet!
All of the pieces are in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks or crazing. There is really no noticeable paint loss on the image.
There are a few flea bite spots on the top rim of the jar. The purple luster ware handle of the spoon has lost much of it's color, but the bowl of the spoon is still quite colorful. The back of the spoon has only one spot of luster ware. Maybe a flaw since manufacture? There is a slight hint of green luster ware along the bottom rim of the lid as well. The inside has a shiny glaze. This was clearly a little jar that was much loved by the hostess who owned it first.
This will enhance any spot it graces!
