Vintage Emkay Choir Boy Christmas Candle
Vintage Emkay Choir Boy Christmas Candle
$25.00
This is a fabulous 1950s Christmas Choir Boy candle by Emkay Candles from the Munch Kreuzer Co., Made in USA.
The candle is unused and in its original box. This Choir Boy would be perfect for your holiday table or mantel décor. From their original creation, they were never intended to be burned as they would have quickly lost their charm!
This candle is from the mid 1950s and is in good vintage condition. There are some spots of dustiness to the bow around his collar and on the choir book and face. I believe the color of the choir robe has faded on the bottom as the bow is quite bright and the robe bottom is very muted. The paint on the face appears to have been added with a heavy hand. Red hair and blue eyes on this cherub. There is a spot for a single small red candle as well as the wick on the top of his head. There is no label on the bottom. The box is original and has some taped repairs on one end and one flap that has separated from the box. The other end has corner and edge scuffs. Coloring is still bright on the box as well.
Interesting information I have found regarding their history: Emkay was founded as Muench-Kreuzer Candle Co. by brothers Alexis and Norbert Muench and their cousin, Fredrick Kreuzer in 1925. It adopted the Emkay name, a play on the company’s original name, because many customers did not know how to pronounce Muench-Kreuzer. It was at the center of the thriving candle business in Syracuse NY and still operates today, primarily supplying candles to religious institutions.
Dimensions:
Box - 3" x 3 1/4" 6 1/4"
Boy Candle - 6" tall, 2 1/4 wide at base, 3 1/4" wide at arms
Small candle - 2 1/2" long
