Vintage Double Handle Fruit Design Serving Bowl
Vintage Double Handle Fruit Design Serving Bowl
$24.00
This bowl is such a nice piece to add to the fall décor, as it celebrates the harvest and has a pretty yellow and white rim to accent the colors of the fruit. It was originally sold as a serving bowl and the fruit theme was quite popular in the late 1940s, early 1950s. This bowl has an elegant still life in the center of apples and cherries with greenery in the background. The fruit are well rendered with rich colors and fine details. The rim is quite elaborate with varying stripes of lusterware white and yellow with a scalloped edge rim, handles on both ends and gold trim.
While charming, the bowl has quite a bit of paint rubbing on the gold design that was encircling the center fruit image. The fruit are in wonderful shape though, and they are the star of the piece! Some usage marks on the white background. But, still really charming and a great companion to the other china fruit bowl listed in my shop.
Other than the paint rubbing, this bowl is in amazing condition considering its age. There are no chips on the outside rim and little to no crazing on the surface. I could see using it as a serving bowl for fall or as a display piece on the counter top or open shelves in the kitchen. It has a unique shape with the handles on both ends.
It is not marked on the back. I believe it may be German lusterware. It appears that the mark on the bottom may have been painted over as there is evidence of newer white paint on the bottom. Not sure why that step would have been taken?
Dimensions:
13 1/2" long, 9 1/4" wide - across the top
8 1/8" x 4 1/2" across the foot
2 1/4" high
