Fun little vintage Science set for display in your Homeschool classroom, Science Classroom or Medical Office. The set includes a 1951 Elementary Science Text Book and a small toy Gilbert microscope.

1 - This Gilbert Microscope was from the Microscope and Lab Set #13013 toy science kit from 1957. It was described as a 60 Power Master View Microscope. The body of the piece is made of light weight metal, painted gray. There were black dials and slide platform. The eye piece is a metal tube that can slide up and down in the holder. There is a reflective plate underneath the viewing platform that rotates. There are no slides included and thus I do not know if the lens is still good on the piece. It would work better with some slides but we were able to shine some light at the mirror plate and see through the eye piece so it could be fun to still use. It displays well and is the perfect compliment to the imagery on the front cover of the book. The paint is chippy in spots and some of the components are made of rubber that have slightly hardened over time. The dials still turn and the slide holder arms move easily. Dimensions: 7" tall ( with eye piece in middle position, 3 1/8" deep, 2" wide

2 - "Elementary - School Science and How to Teach It" by Glenn O. Blough and Albert J. Huggett hardcover book. This is a really charming early grades Science book focused on material the teacher needs to help young children to find answers to their science questions, the subject matter is essentially nontechnical. The 532 pages are text heavy but contain many black and white photographs and diagrams that aide the presentation of the subject matter.

The best part of this book is the cover. It has a bright red fabric-like feel with a photograph of three young students working on an experiment in the science lab. The children look like they are right out of Leave it to Beaver or Mayberry RFD. Just love it!

Publishing Details: Copyright, 1951 by The Dryden Press Publishers New York

The cover is lightly worn with a bumped head and tail and faint crazing marks across the surface. The bound edge is in a contrast gray color with maroon and cream identification. The binding is still nice and tight but the book leans towards the right when closed. There are no scribbles or writing inside. There is a slightly musty odor when the book is opened. You do not smell it when it is closed.
