The colors of the cover of this softcover vintage Facts of Flight Practical Information About Operation of Private Aircraft booklet intrigued me. Then I picked up the book and leafed through the pages and illustrations and I was hooked! It's really a fun piece of literature that the Introductory Note indicates:

This booklet will not teach you how to fly, how to overhaul an engine, or how to repair an airplane. Rather, its purpose is to increase your pleasure and safety in flying by explaining, briefly and simply, some important facts that have been learned through pilot experience, engineering research, and accident analysis.

The book was issued by U.S. Department of Commerce W. Averell Harriman, Secretary from the Civil Aeronautics Administration, T.P. Wright, Administrator. It was written by George Sidney Stanton and printed in 1947 from the US Government Printing Office. The Table of Contents includes Airplane Flight, Stalls and Spins, Airplane Structure, Airplane Engines, Flying the Plane, Airport Traffic, Seaplanes and Safety in Flight.

The front and back cover are made of heavy card stock with teal blue backgrounds and rust and off-white graphics and titles. The booklet includes 41 pages with color illustrations in the same color scheme as the cover and a few charts and graphs.

The booklet itself is in really good condition with some very slight ruffling of the corners and edges. There are a few hand written notations on a few of the pages (in pencil).

This would make a nice gift for a pilot, frequent flyer or airplane enthusiast. Also, nice to display in a mid-century bar or man cave.
