Oh, this is so charming! A rare vintage book entitled "Pelle's New Suit" by Elsa Beskow and Pictures by Eulaie. Copyright 1930 by The Platt & Munk Co. First Edition. A pair of adorable chalk ware sheep from Germany of the same time period will come along with the book as it is a tale of a young boy's new suit being made from the lamb he raised. This is a wonderful book to help children understand where their clothes come from and the traditional craft of working with wool. Awesome find for your antique book collection or as a cute little addition to the Spring themed mantel!

Not only does this look perfect for décor it has the most beautiful illustrations of the adventures of a little Swedish boy named Pelle and how he helped his Grandmother, Grandfather, Mother and the Tailor to get everything he needed to have a new blue suit made from the wool of his lamb. The front and back cover have a dark green background color, with a impressed picture of Pelle and his lamb and the book title and author's name.

This book is in very nice condition considering the age. It is printed on heavy glossy paper stock and the binding is still firmly in place. There are scuffs and ruffles to the corners and edges of the cover, as to be expected when it was a much loved story! Very clean interior with only a few stray marks on the pages and no other damage other than age. The colors are still very vibrant in the illustrations by Eulalie. The first page has remnants of tape from the library check out card and a stamp indicating Bellaire Methodist Church Library. Jimmy Rodger is written in pencil in the upper right hand corner. The book is unpaginated.

The two chalk ware sheep from Germany have placid expressions on their adorable faces. They are both stamped GERMANY on the bottom. There are age related crackles and dirtiness but nothing is broken on either.

Information regarding the author and illustrated I found in my research:

Elsa Beskow (née Maartman; 11 February 1874 – 30 June 1953) was a famous Swedish author and illustrator of children's books. Among her better known books are Tale of the Little Little Old Woman and Aunt Green, Aunt Brown and Aunt Lavender. In 1894 Beskow started to contribute to the children's magazine Jultomten. She ultimately began publishing her own books, doing both illustration and text. Overall, she would publish some forty books with her own text and images. Beskow frequently combined reality with elements from the fairy tale world. Children meet elves or goblins, and farm animals talk with people. Central themes were the relationships between children and adults and children's independent initiative. Her work "depicted a happy home atmosphere in the Swedish countryside of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries."

Eulalie Minfred Banks (12 June 1895 – 12 November 1999) was an American illustrator of children's books, illustrating over 50 children's books. Born in a southeastern suburb of London, England, she started her career in drawing at the age of 12 designing Christmas cards. In 1913 Banks published her first picture book, Bobby in Bubbleland. In 1916 Banks married Arthur Wilson. In 1918 the couple emigrated to Canada and then moved to the United States. In the United States, Banks had a working relationship with the publisher Platt and Munk. She illustrated many classic children's books including nursery rhymes, fairy tales and folk stories. These books remained in print for years.
