I have a friend that likes to use vintage tins and banks as gift holders for gift cards or cash gifts for her extended family. What a great idea! I am keeping my eye open for items that will work for this very purpose for Warmth & Cheer customers. This little tin barrel bank would be the perfect little container for a money gift - so much better than an envelope!

This "Happy Days" Barrel Bank, by J. Chien & Co. is a great piece of nostalgia. The small metal bank is simple, and has great lithograph artwork, depicting a wood barrel with faux wood grain and four staves encircling the perimeter. On the front is "Happy Days" Bank. On the top is a coin slot, on the bottom is a removable plug for emptying the bank and starting over again.

The bank is in wonderful condition for it's age. There is some surface usage marks and the middle piece does not completely line up at the back. There is a slit in the top to insert coins and a silver revolving disc on the bottom to access those coins. I tested the disc and using a flat head screw driver I was able to turn it, remove the disc, and reinstall without any problems. The disc is quite rusty, especially on the inside surface.

A great find for your J Chein or tin litho toy collection!
