Vintage Figurine of Young Child with Dog, "Little Vet" AH901 NAPCO Japan
Vintage Figurine of Young Child with Dog, "Little Vet" AH901 NAPCO Japan
$20.00
What a sweet piece to add to your mantel or bookshelf! This is a sweet vintage figurine of "Little Vet" with his puppy patient! Likely from the 1950s, made by Napco. This darling little child is professionally attired with a stethoscope around his neck, a white lab "gown"
and spectacles perched on their head. The little puppy patient sits at their feet with a bandage tied around their ears. The look on the face is adorable.
This style was fairly common in the 1940s - 1950s as inexpensive porcelain, hand painted, from Japan was one of the ways to bring the country back into the world economy after the war. Often the pieces were similar in presentation to Hummel figurines, but much more rudimentary and painted with a less detailed style. They are getting harder and harder to find as the Greatest Generation's estates, who were the collectors, are less and less common. This is a really charming example of that period work and I thought it would be perfect for the playroom bookshelf of a family that had an affection for dogs.
The bottom is marked Little Vet AH901. My research indicates this is likely from NAPCO, although not marked as such.
The piece is in really nice, vintage condition. No chips or cracks. The bottom is unpainted and unglazed. There are usage marks on the bottom. I did a surface cleaning and it brightened up nicely.
Dimensions:
4 1/4" tall
2" wide (at widest point)
1 7/8" diameter of base
and spectacles perched on their head. The little puppy patient sits at their feet with a bandage tied around their ears. The look on the face is adorable.
