Vintage Rustic Metal Store Receipt Hook
Vintage Rustic Metal Store Receipt Hook
Pair your “Cheese, Wine, and Bread: Discovering the Magic of Fermentation in England, Italy, and France” book with these one-of-a-kind rustic Swan’s Down Flour receipt hook for a handy place to store your BREAD recipes!
This is a really unique piece. I polled my co-workers, family and friends and the consensus is that it originally hung in a grocery store and was used as a receipt or order hook. The base is metal that has been painted white. Advertising copy on the top reads:
Distributors of “Electric” “Harvester” “Swan’s Down” FLOURS
Agents for “Peter’s” “ARAB”, “KING CORN” RABBIT FEEDS
Cartersville Gro. Co. Cartersville Ga.
It is amusing that the co-advertising brands are flour for cooking and feed for rabbits! Such a fun piece of Americana. I would use this in the kitchen for displaying recipes, gratitude cards or post cards. Or, it would be really unique and fun in your office to tame the masses of paper that always seems to accumulate.(Even in this tech-centric age!)
It is in rustic, vintage condition. The piece that holds the hook on to the back plate is quite secure and the pointed end of the hook is still sharp. The paint on the back plate is chippy and has just a few spots of light rust. The cover plate for the hook has darkened. It may be able to be cleaned up a bit but I did not venture, for fear of ruining the authentic aging look.
Really fun!
