Vintage Virginia Poehler "Lobster Buoys - Monhegan Island" Framed Watercolor Painting
Vintage Virginia Poehler "Lobster Buoys - Monhegan Island" Framed Watercolor Painting
$100.00
This is an original work of art entitled, "Lobster Buoys - Monhegan Island”, by Richmond Virginia artist Virginia Poehler.
This is an outstanding late 1970s/early 80s painting of a string of lobster buoys drying on a rail in a rustic dockside shanty on Monhegan Island. (Monhegan Island is a small but charming island off the coast of Maine, where you can experience the rugged beauty and rich history of a fishing and artists' community)
This is a really nice example of regionalist watercolor painting; the watercolor is signed in the lower left. I am very comfortable that it is not a print. The painting is in excellent condition, I believe it was behind glass since completion.
The frame is an excellent compliment to the subject of the painting and is very heavy oak with a darker finish and a slight blue wash over top. The corners are very square and it was professionally double matted with off-white and tan mats. There are a few very small aging spots on the larger mat. It has a brown paper backing and hanging wire. On the back is BY: Virginia Poehler and her address and phone number and the title, "Lobster Buoys - Monhegan Island" There is also a small card with similar information from the metropolitan artists association of Richmond Virginia. It is quite heavy. (5 pounds)
I was able to find a few other pieces by the same artist and they were equally charming. She seems to have specialized in everyday images, or locations. I was not able to find any biographical information, unfortunately.
