This is such a delightful carved-look embossed wood box with a decoupaged riverfront scene on the top. It has decorative feet and the original antique brass hardware for the front latch and the back and inside hinges. Inside is a mirror on the back of the lid that is affixed with a gold metal decorative edging.

It is a dresser top jewelry box/sewing basket/storage bin that is ready for you to use in expected, or unexpected ways! The box lid is decorated with a three part decoupaged riverfront scene with trees in autumnal colors, a man strolling with sheep on the bank of the river and a quaint cottage. The box top and front also have the embossed, carved wood designs.

It’s most likely made of cedar, as a smaller version of a cedar chest. The front clasp has lots of details as well - it looks like it is of Art Deco design in brass. There is a hanging spot for a lock but no lock is included.

The box itself is made of cedar and all four corners have finger joint connections and everything is glued together quite securely. The top and sides have a smooth feel to the finish, the inside and bottom are not unfinished. The top lid is hinged at the back and those hinges are also nicely designed to match the front clasp.

This little gem is in very good vintage condition with some minor wear to the front edges and some slight usage marks in the surface of the wood, especially across the front edge.

What a cute box to contain a gift, or the box alone is the gift! I have a similar one on my desk at work and it does the best job at corralling all the little things that collect on a desk while looking adorable.
