2 Authentic The Co-op Artisanale Nova Scotia Wool Wall Hangings
2 Authentic The Co-op Artisanale Nova Scotia Wool Wall Hangings
$60.00
This is a charming set of two The Co-op Artisanale hand made miniature hooked rugs. They are both made with fine wool yarn with a jute edging. They are coordinating scenes of summer sea side activities. The larger of the tow has three overall clad fishermen standing at the dock watching the sailboats and waves go by. I imagine they have poles in the water that we can not see. One little adorable companion puppy waits patiently at the side. The colors are soft earth tones with the blue sky contrast and a mauve boarder. Black accents complete the image. The colors are still strong and the imagery is most attractive. The smaller of the two is a four panel piece with an anchor, a fisherman, a lighthouse and a sail boat. The sail boat is both pieces are identical.
These pieces are an example of Nova Scotia fine rug hooking on burlap from The Co-Op Artisanale of Cheticamp Nova Scotia, circa 1980`s vintage. (Hanging tag on the larger piece verifies origin) Each square inch of these rugs has 169 hooked loops, so when multiplied by the number of total square inches in the rug means that there are approximately 20,000 hooking loops in this entire hooked piece, all hooked by hand.
They are both in excellent condition. No snags, stains, odors. There are fold lines from storage that I believe would press out with a warm iron. There is a single hanging loop on the smaller piece and double hanging loops on the larger piece. They are ready to hang in your sea themed gallery wall or give as a great present for a boater, sailing enthusiast or water (or dog) lover! I love the delicate nature of these pieces and like to display them with other more rustic items as a counterpoint.
A most charming example of Canadian folk art!
Dimensions:
Larger - 13" x 10 1/4"
