Vintage Royal Chelsea England Tea Cup/Saucer Blue and Gold Plaid
Vintage Royal Chelsea England Tea Cup/Saucer Blue and Gold Plaid
$28.00
This is a lovely vintage Royal Chelsea Tea Cup and Saucer. The cup has a crisp white outside and a border of sapphire blue, white and gold plaid along the inside rim. The saucer mirrors the cup design. The dainty curved handle has a gold painted finish. There are also gold accent lines on the side and foot of the cup. The edges of both pieces are scalloped. This was made in Longton, England of genuine bone china. A beautiful addition to your collection.
The back mark on both pieces indicates - Royal Chelsea England with a black anchor logo. This logo and mark was identified as being used from 1943 through the early 1960s.
The cup and saucer are in really wonderful vintage condition, no chips, cracks crazing or repairs. There is little to no compromise in any of the painted elements, even along the top rim and handle.
Some history I found - Originally founded around 1900 by two brothers, R. H. and S. L. Plant, the company took the name New Chelsea Porcelain Co. Ltd in 1912. Specializing in bone china tea and coffee ware, they skillfully used on-glaze enameling in the 1920s.
Around 1943, the name Royal Chelsea showed up on a lot of their products—particularly for the tea ware sent to North America.
Dimensions:
Saucer - 5 1/2" diameter
Cup - 3 7/8" diameter
5 1/4 wide with handle
2 1/2 " high
