Vintage Canco Bank Americana Mural of Jefferson and Hancock
Vintage Canco Bank Americana Mural of Jefferson and Hancock
$18.50
This is a clever piece of nostalgia - an American Can Company New York "Give Away" Bank. A common advertising piece in the 1940s and 50s was a simple tin bank with colorful paper or litho label that advertised products and encouraged household savings. The colors and pictures on this one make is a great collectors piece. The piece is a lithograph image of the Faulkner Mural in the Archives Building entitled "Jefferson Hands the Declaration of Independence to John Hancock". This scene wraps the entire circumference of the can. On the top of the can is American Can Company New York and Save means to live - The Tempest Act II Scene 1
The colors of the lithograph are those of the actual mural - soft greens, yellows, grays and neutral. Along the bottom beneath the mural image is a listing of the names of the individuals included in the historically important mural for the USA.
The top and bottom are gold, the bottom more shiny than the top. On the top is a slot for coins. On the bottom is removal metal plug with CANCO embossed.
Really nice condition. Some spots of oxidation and surface rust on the top, but nothing to detract from the wonderful colors and nostalgic story telling of the label. The bank does come apart. Just clever and great little collector piece.
Dimensions:
3 1/2" tall
2 1/8" diameter at top and bottom
