Antique Holmes and Edwards Orient Venice Spoon Set
Antique Holmes and Edwards Orient Venice Spoon Set
My sister-in-law's family was parting with the estate of their grandparents and Warmth & Cheer was the lucky recipient of much of their 1920s - 1940s silverware, dinnerware and kitchen items. The silverware had been stored unpolished for years and I was able to bring it back to their formal glory with a lot of elbow grease and silver polish. This is a nice partial set of silverware from that estate and would be great to finish a partial set you already collected, or become the start of a new collection!
They are from Holmes & Edwards and this pattern, called Orient Venice was introduced in 1904. It has a very fancy pattern featuring poppies and other flourishes along the stem, on the end and where the shaft connects to the bowl of the spoon. The set includes 2 serving spoons, 4 dinner/soup spoons and 1 teaspoon. They are stamped Holmes & Edwards on the back. They are monogrammed with an Old English M.
All the pieces are in decent pre-owned condition. They have been used quite extensively, but still present well. There are quite a few scratches in the bowls of the spoons and they all have a little spot of heel wear on the back. They have had an initial cleaning and polishing and are ready for the final finish. The teaspoon does have a slight ding in the heel. Think of how many meals these have seen!
