This is a lovely circa early 1920s German gift box with a lithograph of Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf in the forest, with mushrooms or toadstools around the trees. The inside is lined on one side with a velvety cushion that has two slots at the top. I'm pretty sure it was a presentation box for a jewelry piece for a child. The sides of the bottom of the case are painted gold, to allow the base to be displayed as well. The sides of the lithographed top are satiny pink with swirled pattern. Everything about this case made it special - it doesn't surprise me that it long outlasted the jewelry piece!

This is in very good condition considering it is a paper product from around 100 years ago! There are some rubs to the gold paint that surrounds the lithograph image on the top. The bottom right and left hand corner have a few nicks in the paper (more on the right). The paper that lines the back of the lid is crinkled - maybe not original to the piece? The back of the lid is in excellent condition. The velvet fabric is also in nice condition with only slight aging. There are a few slight scuffs on the back of the case. The lithograph image is really really clear and shows little or no light damage.

This is a really rare piece of German lithograph art and shows amazing quality and craftsmanship that has stood the test of time!
